David Cortese Obituary

Douglas- David P. Cortese, Esquire, 60, of Manchaug St, formerly of Reading, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday July 7, 2022 after a brief illness. His family was by his side.

     He is survived by his wife of 19 years Andrea L. (Williamson)  Cortese; 2 sons Alexander J. Cortese and his significant other Brianna Brothers of Sturbridge and Benjamin D. Cortese of Douglas; his sister Susan M. Kneeland and her husband Randy of Reading; his brother John A. Cortese of Reading; his sister-in-law Carla Taylor and her husband Will of Mission Viejo, CA; his in-laws Sven and Paulette Williamson of Oxford; several nephews and nieces including Ally, Katie, Lily, and Logan; and many good friends and coworkers. Born in Reading, MA on May 4, 1962 he was the son of the late Marilyn A. (Zins) Cortese and lived in Douglas 21 years.

     A Lawyer the past ten years, Mr. Cortese owned and operated the Law Office of David P. Cortese in Auburn. Previously David worked 27 years for the Massachusetts State Police as a Road Trooper out of the Holden Barracks. There he served on their Motorcycle Team, on the C Troop Community Action Team, as a VP on their Police Union Board and as a Member on the Board of the State Police Museum. 

     David was educated at Redding High School, UMass Lowell, Anna Maria College and at Western New England Law School where he served on their Alumni Board. He also taught Criminal Justice at Becker College several years.

     Mr. Cortese was the Vice Chairman and a member of the Board of Selectman in Douglas. He was passionate about the Second Amendment, enjoyed shooting at the Beagle Club and helping to teach LTC classes through Safety First Firearms located at Pioneer Arms. A self-admitted Disneyworld fan, he loved taking trips to the Magic Kingdom. He was a skilled negotiator who enjoyed politics and once ran for the 18th Worcester District State Representative. 

      His funeral will be held on Wed. July 13, 2022 at 11 am in St. Denis Church, 23 Manchaug St. Douglas. Burial will follow in St. Denis Cemetery. Calling hours at the Jackman Funeral Home, 7 Mechanic St. Douglas are Tues. July 12 from 4 to 8 p.m.  Memorial donations in David’s memory may be made to the Douglas Police Dept. 29 Depot St. Douglas, MA 01516.
