Obituary

Douglas- Clarence W. “Willy” Hafford Sr, 82, of Eagle Dr. passed away peacefully on Thurs. March 30, 2023 surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years Mary E. (Farrington) Hafford; his two children Clarence W. “Willy” Hafford Jr. and his girlfriend Terry of Franklin and Lisa J. Haire and her husband Ricky Heuklom of Douglas; seven grandchildren Shannon Heuklom, Julie Roberts, Matthew Hafford, Maggie Heuklom, AJ Hafford, Dean Hafford, and Haylee Haire; five great-grandchildren Aydin, Colton, Savannah, Coreymae and Zahara; six siblings Annette Manzi of Springfield, Thelma Hafford of Framingham, Glenwood Hafford and his wife Doshia of Chester, VA, Nelson Hafford of Ashland, ME, Clyde Hafford and his wife Susan of Ashland, ME, and Nancy Enos of Framingham; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a grandson Corey Heuklom and was brother to the late Donna Wetherall, Daniel Hafford, Guy Hafford, Geraldine Bragdon, and James Hafford.

Born in Mapleton, ME on July 8, 1940, he was the son of James and Emma (Weaver) Hafford and lived in Douglas for the past eight years. Previously he lived in Medway, MA for many years, where he raised his family. Willy worked for many years as a mechanic at Merchant Tire Co. and later as an auto parts salesman at Millis Used Auto Parts before retiring in 1997. He and his wife spent some of their retirement years living on the coast of Maine before returning to MA to be close to family.

He had a long history with MS but adjusted to his limitations with fierce independence and strength. Not much could keep him down. In his younger years, Willy was first and foremost a family man. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, especially the little ones. He loved to tease them but they loved their Grampy!

Willy was well liked and admired. He had a love for hot rod cars and Harley Davidsons, owning some real gems through the years. He always enjoyed riding his motorcycles and passed that love onto both his children. He was also a fan of Boston Bruins Hockey, the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.

In his recent years Willy could be found sitting on his screened porch, puffing on his pipe and making his daily phone calls to friends and family. Among his favorites were to his son Willy and his brother Nelson, whom he called daily. On nice evening’s Willy and his wife Mary would sit together on the porch enjoying the hummingbirds that fluttered around his feeder.

According to his wishes, there will be a grave side service on Saturday May 6th at 11:30am. Where he will be laid to rest with his beloved grandson Corey in The Douglas Center Cemetery, in Douglas MA. All are invited to attend. There are no calling hours. As a life-long dog lover and owner, memorial donations in Willy’s memory may be made to: Dog Orphans Inc., PO Box 767, Douglas, MA 01516.
