Cheryl Bergeron Obituary

Whitinsville - Cheryl Ann (Havunen) Bergeron, 68, passed away on Friday, August 8, 2025, at UMass University Hospital in Worcester after a long illness.

Born on September 2, 1956, in Woonsocket, RI, Cheryl was the daughter of the late Neil W. Havunen Jr. and Claire D. (Ethier) Havunen and was raised in North Smithfield. She was educated in the North Smithfield public school system. Cheryl had been a resident of Whitinsville for the past 24 years, previously living in Uxbridge. She owned Depot Car Wash in Linwood and Mom’s Restaurant in Uxbridge. She was the most loving and caring mom, sister, Grammie, aunt, boss, and friend with the biggest heart. She was a very strong, independent, hard worker who loved to stay busy.

In her free time, what Cheryl cherished most was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, playing games, cooking, swimming, and playing by her pool. She also enjoyed shopping, yard-saling, taking trips with family, playing cards with her siblings and friends, visiting the casino, and playing bingo. She would always make the holidays special, especially Christmas, going above and beyond.

She is survived by her three children: Tammy J. McGovern and her husband, Steven, of North Smithfield, RI; Timothy N. Bergeron of Whitinsville, MA; and Jill M. Lavoie and her husband, Emile, of Coventry, RI; seven grandchildren: Kelsey, Kristoffer, Destiny, Rylee, Zackary, Sierra, and Benjamin; two step-grandchildren: Sparrow and Lee; five great-grandchildren: Skylah, Joel, Isabella, Olivia, and Kristoffer Jr.; five siblings: Steven Havunen and his wife, Karen, of HI; Kim M. Havunen of Burrillville, RI; Dawn Alonzo and her husband, Eugene, of Bakersfield, CA; David Havunen of Woonsocket, RI; Patricia Dolan of Glocester, RI; two stepsons: Mark Dupree and Michael Dupree, both of Whitinsville, MA; two stepbrothers: Ronald Davison of Southbridge, MA, and Scott Davison of North Smithfield, RI; her lifelong best friend, Mala Vadnais, and her family of North Smithfield, RI; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.

Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her stepfather, Jackie D. Davison; her longtime companion, Carl J. “Butch” Dupree; her stepson, Scott Dupree; and two stepbrothers, Carl and Alan Davison.

Cheryl will be truly and dearly missed by all who knew her.
