Douglas- Carol L. (Keeling) Perkins, 79, of Arnold Rd. passed away peacefully at home on Monday April 10, 2023 after an illness.
She is survived by her two children, Wendy A. Wasiuk of Uxbridge and Marc Gove Perkins of Douglas; 2 grandchildren, Julian A. Ramos and Megan Starr Ramos; a sister, Anita Waterman of Pascoag; a brother, Glenn Keeling of NH; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Armand “Sonny” Gagne, Norma St Pierre, Robert “Butch”Gagne, John J. Keeling and Donald Keeling.
Born in the Pascoag section of Burrillville, RI on July 18, 1943, she was the daughter of the late John and Jessie (Sands) Keeling and lived in Douglas for over 50 years. She was raised in Pascoag.
Mrs. Perkins worked at the former Zambarano Hospital in Pascoag, The Schuster Woolyard in Douglas, where she designed and made clothing, and the former Mr. Christmas in Douglas, where she was a store manager and decorator. She then did retail decorating for several stores including Macy’a Dept. Store. She was very talented and creative. Her last job was at Alternatives Unlimited, where she worked for 20 years, retiring in 2017. Carol cared deeply for the developmentally disabled people whom she helped.
A graduate of Burrillville High School, Carol was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader in Douglas, and loved planting and gardening. She was an avid bird watcher, and enjoyed the area surrounding Wallum Lake in Douglas.
One of Carol’s favorite summer day outings was swimming in the ocean and relaxing at Salty Brine Beach, Narragansett, RI, then racing over to the lobster boats around 3 PM and enjoying a lobster dinner boil that evening. She also enjoyed a relaxing day at Horseneck Beach in Westport, MA. Carol harvested blackberries from the Chase Farm with friends and family which they used to make summer wine, and she and her friends played in Sunday summer volleyball games.
Following cremation, a Celebration of Carol’s life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, a children’s flower planting event is being created. Details will follow.
