Douglas- Bruce C. Wires, 74, passed away on Fri. August 12, 2022 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston after a courageous 5-year battle with cancer.
He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Donna M. Hadley-Wires; 2 stepchildren, Jeremy Hadley and Jennifer Huchowski both of Holden; 3 grandchildren, Jon, Alyssa, and Harlee; 4 siblings, Beverly Marini and her husband Robert of S. Easton, Schuyler Wires and his wife Ursula of Mashpee, Diane Campbell and her husband Charles “Doc” Beard of Mint Hill, NC, and Dawn Rodowicz and her husband John of Weston. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends.
Born in Chelsea on Feb. 21, 1948 he was son of the late Leroy and Reba (Campbell) Wires and grew up in Newton. Bruce was a graduate of Newton High School and went on to serve his country in the U.S Navy, during the Vietnam Era. After returning from the service, Bruce was employed as a Diesel Mechanic working for the Newton Fire Department for 25 years. He also worked for Pepsi Cola in Canton for many years before his retirement in 2012.
Known to family and friends as a jack of all trades, master of none, Bruce was a big-time tinkerer. He built his own 2-story garage at his home and liked building things, welding, and working on his cars and motorcycles. He was a Harley Davidson enthusiast and rebuilt his 1983 Electra Glide which he referred to as “Old Blue”. He also had many old Ford’s over the years that he rebuilt. He also enjoyed boating and spending time with family and friends. He had a great sense of humor and will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Bruce’s life will be held on Sunday, September 4th from 1-4 PM at the Millville Polish American Club, 37 Ironstone St., Millville MA 01529.
