Sutton - Brenda L. (Christie) Willard Haglund, the “Prettiest Lady in the World”, age 79, of Sutton, formerly of Douglas, passed away peacefully on Friday April 18, 2025.
She is survived by her children Denise R. Willard of Worcester, Fred A. Willard Jr. and his wife Caroline of Webster and Kelley A. Blondin of S. Grafton; her stepchildren Melissa J and Stephen M. Haglund; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; Ken McNickels and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son Chad E. Willard who passed away in 2022, her husband, the love of her life, Stephen C. Haglund died in 2000 and her first husband Fred A. Willard Sr. in 1993. Her siblings Leo Letourneau, Shirley (Letourneau) O’Leary, and Beverly (Christie) Ernenwein. Growing up she had a special bond with her grandmother Minnie Posterro who also predeceased her.
Born in Worcester, MA on March 31, 1946, she was the daughter of Edward and Lena (Posterro) Christie and lived in Sutton for many years. She previously lived in Douglas for over 30 years and was raised in Shrewsbury.
Brenda worked special services for the Worcester County House of Corrections in W. Boylston for many years and also served as a Constable for the Town of Douglas for several years. She was a graduate of the Venerini Academy and Quinsigamond Community College, both in Worcester.
Brenda was a positive, active minded, happy and strong woman who was loved by all who knew her. She had strong faiths and beliefs and enjoyed belonging to the Mill Church in Millbury where she was affectionately known as “Joy”. She had spent many years attending Summit Eldercare forming many great friendships. She enjoyed family Sunday dinners, shopping and yard sales over the years. Her family was most important to her, Brenda loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The fabric of her life was family and Brenda will be missed by everyone whose life she touched.
Brenda’s Memorial Funeral Service will be held Friday May 2, 2025 at 11am in the First Congregational Church of Douglas, 3 Common St. Douglas. Cremation burial will follow in Douglas Center Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made in Brenda’s memory to the American Liver Foundation, 155 Passaic Ave., Suite 100, Fairfield, NJ 07004.
