Uxbridge- Bernard “Buddy” Withington, 84, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 18th at the Tancrell House in Uxbridge where he resided over 15 years.
He is survived by cousins, Charlie Dwyer of Fitchburg, Bobby Lane of Leominster, Alice Langford of Shirley, Kevin Whittemore of FL, and Jimmy Whittemore of Westford. He is also survived by his loving second family, the residents and staff of the Tancrell House, and long-term guardian Nancy Ober of N. Grafton.
Born in Fitchburg, MA on January 28, 1939, he was son of the late John Withington Jr. and Bertha (Whittemore) Blood. He was also predeceased by his adored stepfather Timothy Blood.
Buddy attended the Open Sky Adult Learning Program in Whitinsville. He loved to work. He followed sports, and was an avid Patriots, Red Sox and Yankees fan. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing. His step-dad Tim would take him nearly every day after work to Whalom Lake in Lunenburg.
Buddy had great interest in the Air Force, planes and anything service related that he could collect. He was a true gentleman, very polite and social, but also a ladies-man who loved to flirt! Always helpful, he loved to cook and meal prep. He enjoyed outings, being with friends, and eating. He enjoyed calling Tancrell House his home and was very loved by everyone in his life.
His graveside service will be held at 11AM on Wednesday, May 24th in Forest Hill Cemetery, 115 Mt. Elam Rd., Fitchburg, MA. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 23rdfrom 3-4PM in Tancrell-Jackman Funeral Home, 35 Snowling Rd., Uxbridge.
