Douglas- Austin M. “Mick” McDermott, 85 of Yew St. passed away on Monday May 15, 2023 after a long illness. 

     He is survived by his wife of 27 years Elaine M. (Leclerc) McDermott; two children Maria Shearer and Robert McDermott both of Natick; three grandchildren Jonathan and Michael Shearer of Texas, and Nicole Shearer of Natick; three step-children Jeffrey Laporte of Texas, Eric Laporte and his wife Erin of Hampden, MA, and Brianna Laporte of Douglas; two step-grandchildren Emily Laporte and Levi Laporte both of Hampden, MA; two sisters Kathleen Boudreau  and Judy Bergeron both of Leominster; his former wife Spyridoula “Kiki” McDermott of Natick; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son Anthony McDermott and was brother of the late Gerald McDermott, Thomas McDermott, Maureen Shields, and Rita Marceau. 

     Born in Fitchburg, MA on July 20, 1937, Mick was the son of Austin and Yvonne (Nantelle) McDermott, and lived in Douglas 28 years.

     Mr. McDermott worked as a Production Manager for the Advanced Interconnect Co. in Uxbridge. He then worked for UPS in Shrewsbury, retiring when he was 72. He was a U.S. Air Force Korean Conflict Veteran.

     Mick was easy going, light hearted and funny. He enjoyed reading, bowling, and spending time with family and friends.

     According to his family’s wishes  services will be private. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to: Dana Farber Cancer Institute,  Box 849168 Boston, MA 02284.
