Douglas- Anthony J. “Tony” Gressak, 77, of Wallis St., passed away peacefully on Wed. May 23, 2018 at Milford Regional Medical Center after an illness. His wife of 57 years Betty Jean (Therrien) Gressak was by his side.
Besides his wife he is survived by 2 brothers Stephen C. Gressak and his wife Judy of Douglas, and Daniel J. Gressak and his wife Sandra of Bristol, CT; 2 sisters Catherine C. Makowski of Uxbridge and Rosanna B. Greene and Al Senecal; many nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces; and good friends. Born in Douglas, MA on Aug. 22, 1940 he was the son of Stephen P. and Catherine M. (Laincz) Gressak and lived here all his life.
Mr. Gressak worked as a manager for the Town of Douglas Water and Waster Water Dept. 11 years, retiring in 2002. Previously he worked in the maintenance dept. for Baystate Abrasives in Westborough 24 years and Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford CT several years. He was a graduate of Douglas Memorial High School, Class of 1958 where he played baseball and basketball. He continued with baseball playing in the original American Legion League. He served in the Air National Guard during the Vietnam era.
Tony was an avid golfer, and enjoyed playing numerous courses and tournaments with his friends. He enjoyed walking, maintaining his yard, and gardening. He also followed the local sports teams, particularly the Boston Red Sox and NE Patriots. He was a lifelong member of St. Denis Church where he served as a collector.
His Memorial Funeral Mass will be held Sat. June 2 at 11 am in St. Denis Church, 23 Manchaug St. Cremation burial in St. Denis Cemetery will follow. Calling hours at Jackman Funeral Home, 7 Mechanic St. are Sat. June 2, from 9 to 10:30 am.
