Douglas- Alice F. (Manyak) Conway, 94, of North St. passed away peacefully on Saturday December 6, 2025 at home after a brief illness. Her husband of 55 years John J. Conway died June 22, 2005.
She is survived by her son Kevin and his wife Karen Conway of Douglas; two grandchildren, Jennifer and her husband Gerald Duffy of Worcester, and Sean Conway of Boston; two great-grandchildren, Jolene and Keely Duffy, and many nieces and nephews. She was sister of the late Barbara Herbst, Helen Ouillette, Stephen Manyak, John Manyak, Frank Manyak, and Andrew Manyak.
Born in Douglas on June 27, 1931 she was the daughter of John Sr. and Anna (Duda) Manyak and lived in Douglas all her life. She was a graduate of Douglas High School class of 1949. Alice was employed in the payroll department for the former Hayward Schuster Woolen Co. in Douglas for many years. She then worked for the Visiting Nurse’s Association in Mendon in their office. She retired in 1993.
She was a lifelong member of St. Denis Church, where she served faithfully on their Bereavement Ministry and the Catholic Women’s Council. She was also a proud member of the Slovak Catholic Sokol, and VFW Woman’s Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending summer weekends on the Cape with her husband at their favorite place, The Irish Village. Together, they enjoyed many trips over the years with Foxy Travel. A wonderful cook, Alice enjoyed preparing big Sunday Dinners for her family, her specialties being golumpki’s, and pierogi’s. She was an amazing grandmother and treasured being close to her grandchildren as they grew up.
Her Funeral Mass will be held Friday December 12, 2025 at 10:30 am in St. Denis Church, 23 Manchaug St. Burial will follow in St. Denis Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations in Alice’s memory may be made to the Douglas Adult Social Center, 331 Main St., Douglas, MA 01516.
