Albert Tompkins Obituary

Uxbridge – Albert W. “Tom” Tompkins,, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at UMass University Campus in Worcester, after a period of declining health. He is survived by his devoted wife of 38 years, Sharon E. (Yeager) Murphy Tompkins.

Tom was a loving father and stepfather, deeply proud of his family. He leaves behind his three children: Brett Tompkins and his companion Kathy Plummer of St. Petersburg, FL; Kyle Tompkins and his wife Lisa of Blackstone; and Ethan Tompkins of Douglas. He is also survived by their sister, Beth Rayner-Zyskowski of Milford, MA. He leaves five stepchildren, whom he loved as his own: Colleen Sanford and her fiancé Dave Kaffeian of Barre, VT; John Murphy and his wife Marylou of Falmouth, ME; Erin Finley-Wyse and her husband Joseph of Falmouth, ME; and Robert Murphy of the Florida Keys. He was predeceased by his beloved stepdaughter, Kelly Murphy of Waltham.

Tom was the proud grandfather of Makayla Tompkins, Ian Morrison and his wife Leah, Hunter Sanford, Connor Murphy, Aidan Murphy, Allison Murphy, Meghan Finley, Riley Finley, and great-grandfather to Whitney Morrison. He is also survived by his brother Roger Tompkins of Reading, MA; sister Anita Tompkins of Kennebunk, ME; his niece Amanda Ginn, her husband Cliff, and their daughter, his grandniece Aurora—along with many treasured friends.

Born in Weston, MA, on June 28, 1941, Tom was the son of the late Albert W. Tompkins Jr. and Rosamond (Edgar) Tompkins. He spent his summers in Kennebunkport, ME, and was raised in Weston. He attended Proctor Academy, Weston High School, and the Franklin Institute, and later completed numerous professional development courses.

A skilled Manufacturing Technologist Tom was a creative and talented craftsman who enjoyed woodworking, restoring antique cars, and taking on hands-on projects of all kinds. A man of many interests, he was an avid reader, ballroom dancer, and a passionate Civil War history enthusiast. He also loved to travel—especially taking cruises—and treasured time spent vacationing with family and friends.

A lifelong New England Patriots fan, Tom was a proud season ticket holder dating back to the team’s early days when they played in Boston.

Those who knew Tom remember him as a thoughtful listener, a kind and steadfast presence, and someone who could always be counted on for quiet strength and support. He will be deeply missed by all who had the joy of knowing him.

A celebration of Tom’s life will be held on Friday, August 8, 2025, at 10 AM at Tancrell-Jackman Funeral Home, 35 Snowling Rd., Uxbridge. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
