My wife Barbara and I were greatly saddened to hear of Mary's passing. We had communicated with her three weeks ago via email, and she had informed us of how things were going; however, we were not prepared for this terrible news. Since Mary and I first met in 2005, she and I continued a friendly rivalry as to whether Alpha Company or Delta Company would have the highest attendence at the next reunion, and we in 3rd platoon, Delta Company, adopted Mary as our "Little Sister" after the 2005 Columbus reunion. We were so happy that Mary and Becky we able to join  us at our 2009 3rd platoon, Delta Company, reunion in Washington, DC. We in 3rd platoon, Delta Company will miss Mary greatly, and express our condolences to her family and friends.

I am so sorry to hear that Mary lost her battle with cancer. All of us in the 31st Infantry Regimental Assn. will miss her so much . She has been my little sis since we met at one of the reunions. Things will not be the same with myself and all of her brothers, from now on and to eternity we will miss and love her. Until we meet in heaven, rest assured that you were loved and we were blessed to know and love you. RIP little Sis

Mary was a shining light to her brothers in the 31st U.S. Infantry Regiment Association.  I ,as well as, all of the Soldiers, members, and friends who knew Mary will miss her beyond expression.  She became an inspiration and strong and concerned leader within an Infantry association made up of combat veterans.  Mary was fighter, a leader, a care giver, and a caring supportive "Make it Happen" doer.  The 31st Infantry Regiment will continue to hold our annual reunions and old Soldiers will meet and remember old times, but now they will never be the same.  Mary won''t be there, but her spirit will.  Mary we will miss you and we will grieve over your passing, but we will not forget you or the love and care that you brought to us.  Pro Patria,  Ron C

Very sad to hear of Mary'spassing. She was wonderful and a joy to all of us vets, w/o her support and very active participation, I'm sure I wouldn't have ever have been back in contact with my friends from Vietnam. You have my deepest sympathy.

Thank you Mary for all you did to assist Veterans.  I am a friend by association, a member of the 6th of the 31st, and while I met you only once, your reputation of support, love, and participation preceded you.

Speaking for a generation who was hard pressed to find friends and supporters, your devotion to your brother, and to the rest of us did not go unnoticed.

We, the Vietnam Veterans, often say to one another; "Welcome Home Brother", please allow me to offer the same to you Mary, "Welcome Home Sister".

Your friend,

Randy Whitaker

I would have never re connected with my fellow Vietnam Veterans without Mary.  She did more to help we veterans than anyone.  She was great and has a special place in a lot of soldier's hearts, mine included.  What a great legacy!

Had it not been for the hard work and dedication of Mary, I may have never been brought back into the fold with my old Vietnam comrades. When I met her for the first time at the 2005 regiment reunion, I also found that she was one of those rare people who radiated with a love and energy that captured the hearts of those with whom she made contact. Mary gave nuch more of herself to the regiment than could be expected of anyone. Words can not express the sorry that we all feel at the loss of such a wonderful lady. We may have lost a ''Little Sister'' but God has gained an Angel.

Chuck, Becki And Jed,
We are so saddened to hear of Mary's passing.  She fought so hard to beat this disease.
We met Mary in San Pedro the first reunion Nick and I attended.  Mary immediately made us feel welcome and at ease.  We have been friends since that meeting.  When Mary visited Chuck in Arizona they always made it a point to have dinner with us and we looked forward to see her pop in unannounced.  Sometimes Becki and Jed came too, we will truly miss those good times.
Our prayers and thoughts are with you all.
Love, Nick and June

Aunt Mary was so special to me as she was my Godmother. She and my Dad were childhood  friends and so it was only natural for my parents to choose her to be a part of my life in such a big way. I am so very sorry she lost such a courageous battle. She will forever be in my heart and she's in my 4 year old daughters heart as well. Halea got the chance to meet her in September while visiting Mass. for the first time. Becki, I will never forget our times together when we were younger. I am so sorry for your loss. :( keep looking up! Love to you and your family.     Love Krissta (Burgess) Lam
