North Smithfield, RI- Joseph Charles Hession, 90, currently of North Smithfield, RI and Lighthouse Point, FL (formally of Uxbridge) passed away peacefully on February 9, 2021, with his youngest daughter Kristin by his side. His beloved wife of 63 years, Barbara A. (Plante) Hession passed away in March of 2020.
He is survived by his 3 children, Cheryl Cosma and her husband John, Robin Paul, and Kristin Oleksy and her husband John Oleksy, 4 grandchildren, Andrea Johnson, Carolyn Cosma, Kerri Ahlf, and Michael Paul, as well as 4 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Joseph C. Hession Jr., grandson Jacob Richards, sisters, Mary Mullaly, Laura O’Dell, Katherine Valacer, and brother, Michael Hession III.
Joseph was born on December 20, 1930 in Millville, MA to Michael A. and Katherine (Trainor) Hession. He attended high school at Dean Academy in Franklin, MA, and after enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1951 where he proudly served his country until 1955. He was stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport, LA. In June of 1956 he married Barbara A. Plante of Woonsocket, RI and they had 4 children.
In 1955 he began his career with New England Telephone and Telegraph. He enjoyed his job very much and retired as a service manager at Verizon in 1984. Joe loved football and cars, the faster the better! He enjoyed giving back to his community by being a member of the Uxbridge Rotary Club in the 1970s and early 1980s. Joe and Barbara enjoyed winters at their condo in Lighthouse Point, Fl surrounded by many friends and fun activities.
Joseph’s funeral service will be held at 11 AM in Tancrell-Jackman Funeral Home, 35 Snowling Rd., Uxbridge on Sat. Feb. 13th. Calling hours will be held prior from 9-11 AM.
