Douglas- Mary F. (Kleya) Wnukowski, 100, passed away peacefully on Mon. June 18 at her daughters home in Arundel, ME where she has been living the past year. She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, E. Joseph Wnukowski in 2004.
She is survived by 2 sons, David J. Wnukowski and his wife Elaine of Douglas, and Peter J. Wnukowski and his wife Patricia of Douglas; a daughter, Christine Guerin and her husband Roger of Arundel, ME; 6 grandchildren, Justin Wnukowski, Brian Wnukowski, Rosemary Guerin, Michael Guerin, Kevin Wnukowski, and Kristen Wnukowski; 2 great grandchildren, Rhea, and Margaret; a sister, Anne Vajcovec of Webster; and several nieces and nephews. Born in Douglas on Feb. 28, 1918 she was the daughter of Andrew and Susan (Baca) Kleya and lived all of her life in Douglas.

Mrs. Wnukowski was a graduate of Douglas High School class of 1936, who shortly after, worked at Norton Company in Worcester. Then at age 26 she proudly joined the US Navy WAVES during the WWII era. She married Joseph in 1949 and raised their family in Douglas. In the early 1950’s Mary eventually fulfilled her dream of owning and operating her own hair salon in town for several years. Along with being a hair stylist, she later worked for the former Haywood-Schuster Woolen Mill in Douglas. A woman of great faith, Mary was a longtime member of St. Denis Church in Douglas and was the former president of the Catholic Women’s Council. She enjoyed chocolate, bird watching, singing, dancing, and listening to music, traveling, knitting, reading and spending time with her extended family. She was loved by all, and will always be remembered for her subtle and often times hilarious wit!

Mary was one of my mother's favorite friends.
During my long ago teens, I helped Mary in her beauty shop and
enjoyed Baby-sitting her children. Fond memories!
Sending prayers and love,
Claire

Hello to the Family of Mary. How Blessed you were to have her for 100 years. My Beloved Mother passed in her 80's however Alzheimer's took her from me 15 years before she went to Heaven. Her maiden name was Wnuk but she always said that her REAL name was not Alice Madeline Wnuk......she swore it was Alexandria Magadalena Wnukowski...I could never find anything on paper to support her claim however knowing the system it is possib"le her name was shortened. In my heart she will ALWAYS be Alexandria to me. Your Mother's name has been added to my daily Rosary AND I have asked my earthly mother to "show her around Heaven and which mansion is hers. God Bless You...Dennis
