Douglas- Clyde D. McNelly, 87, previously of Wixtead Ct., passed away on Mon. April 23, 2018 after an illness at Harrington Healthcare in Webster. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Norma B. (Ludvigson) McNelly.

He is also survived by 6 children, Clyde “Duane” McNelly of Douglas, Ronald McNelly and his wife Nancy of Uxbridge, Timothy McNelly of Douglas, Karen McNelly of Douglas, Kimberly Carroll and her husband Stephen of Douglas, and Jaime McNelly also of Douglas; 6 grandchildren; and 6 great- grandchildren; and a sister Eileen McNelly of Northbridge. He was predeceased by a son David McNelly in 2013, and 4 brothers, John, Merrill, George, and Charlie McNelly; and a sister Mary Knight. Born in Whitinsville on Oct. 24, 1930 he was the son of John and Agnes (Thompson) McNelly and was a lifelong resident of Douglas.

Mr. McNelly was a machinist and worked for the former Whitin Machine Works for many many years, then for the former Hayward-Schuster Woolen Mills, and also as a custodian for Hannaford’s Supermarket until his retirement. A Korean War veteran, Clyde proudly served in the U.S Army as a sergeant. He was a former Commander, and a longtime member of the Joseph J. Mitchna VFW Post 7554. His family was his life, and he knew how to make them smile. A practical joker Clyde will be remembered for his great sense of humor . He was a self taught guitarist and organist, who enjoyed fishing, bowling, and trips to the casino.

His funeral will be held in Jackman Funeral Home, 7 Mechanic St., Douglas on Weds. May 2 with a service beginning at 10AM, burial will follow in St. Denis Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be held prior from 9-10am. In lieu of flowers, donations in Clyde’s memory may be made to St. Denis Church, 23 Manchaug St., Douglas MA 01516.
