Northbridge- Dorothy J. (Smith) Gniadek, 88, of Cooper Rd. passed away on Thurs. Aug. 10 peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her first husband Lawrence Caouette in 1974, and then by her second husband Robert W. Gniadek in She is survived by a son Ronald Caouette with whom she lived, and 3 daughters; Sandra Bousquet of Gorham, ME, Edna Stefaniak of Whitinsville, and Allison Culley of Nashville, TN, 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her daughter Lilly May Abbis, and her son Lawrence Caouette, Jr.

Born in Northbridge on Nov. 12, 1928 she was the daughter of John and Lillian (Sprague) Smith and has lived in the area her whole life. She worked for the former Manchaug Corp. for many years as a line manager. She also volunteered as a cook for the Northbridge Senior Center. She had a passion for gardening, landscaping, and cooking. She was a loving mother and grandmother, and had a great sense of humor. A woman of great faith, Dorothy was a lifelong member of St. Patrick’s Church, and was a Eucharistic Minister, and a member of their Bereavement Committee.

Her Memorial Funeral Service will be held on Thur. Aug 24 in St. Patrick’s Church, 1 Cross St. Whitinsville, with a Mass at 10am. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Memorial Calling hours at Jackman Funeral Home, 12 Spring St. Whitinsville will be held on Wed. Aug. 23rd from 5-7 pm. To leave a condolence message for the family please visit:

To The Family of Dot Gnadek,
Tom and I express our sincere condolences to the Gnadek & Caouette family during the passing of Dot. She was a good neighbor, whom we will miss seeing. She also made the most delicious apple pies.
