Uxbridge- Joseph "Gerard" G. E. Lemelin, 89, passed away peacefully on May 19 at UMASS Memorial Medical Ctr. after a brief illness. He is survived by his two sons, Joseph Lemelin of Uxbridge and Marc Lemelin and his wife Glynis of Douglas. He was predeceased by his wife Loretta in 2013 and a brother, Gerard, who died at the age of 2 .
"Gerard" was born in Northbridge on Oct. 16, 1926 and was the son of Joseph and Rose (Blouin) Lemelin. He was employed at the Uxbridge Worsted , the Draper Corp. in Hopedale and retired as an LPN at Wrentham State School. He had a reputation of being dependable and meticulous in his work.  Gerard served in the U.S. Army beginning in 1945 and worked primarily in post WWII operations in Japan in 1946, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1947. He was a devoted husband, caring for his beloved wife of 60 years during her 5+ year battle with cancer. He was also a devoted father, helping his sons on various projects and was always willing to help anyone who needed it. During his retirement, he drove for the former Fino Chrysler dealership delivering cars between dealerships. This was a job he truly loved, as he had the opportunity to work with his wife. After leaving Fino, he got involved with helping his son Joe build his business. He enjoyed old movies, a good political debate and was active in the Catholic Church and his faith.
There are no calling hours. A funeral Mass will be held at 11am. Sat. June 11, 2016 at Good Shepherd Church, 121 Linwood St., Uxbridge. A luncheon gathering of family and friends will be held in the church hall after Mass. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St Benedict Center, P.O. Box 1000, Still River, MA 01467.
