Douglas-Donald W. DeGroat, 69, of South St. formerly of Uxbridge, died Tues. April 3 at Harrington Healthcare in Webster after being stricken ill.  He is survived by a daughter Deborah M. Stewart and her companion Raymond Bilodeau of Dudley; a son-in-law Bryan Stewart; a grand-daughter Kelly and her wife MaryAnn Stewart; a grandson Bryan Stewart Jr.; 4 great-granddaughters whom he loved and cherished as well as 4 brothers Lenny Potter, Frank Miller, Bill Miller, Alan DeGroat and 4 sisters Josephine Wheeler, Debra DeGroat, Connie Engebretson, and Donna Kohler, all of Minnesota; and many nephews and nieces.  He was predeceased by his wife of 37 years, Carol (Lyness) DeGroat in 2001, daughter Sherry Ann DeGroat in 1964, son Johnny DeGroat in 2001, a brother Paul DeGroat and a sister Beverly Lenz.  Born in White Earth, MN on May 29, 1942 he was son of Lester and Josephine (Ogema) DeGrout and lived in Uxbridge many years before moving to Douglas.  He was currently employed as an electroplater at New Method Plating in Worcester. He served as a Machinist Mate in the U.S. Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis where he received the National Defense Service Medal.  Don was also a very active member and former commander of the VFW Post 1385 in Uxbridge.

His memorial service will be held on Sat. April 14 at 10 a.m. in West Sutton Cemetery, West Sutton Rd., Sutton.  There are no calling hours.
