S. Grafton- Stella S. (Kurtyka) Plante, 98, of Milford Rd. passed away on Tues. March 2, 2021 at home surrounded by her loving family. Her husband of 53 years Henry A. Plante died March 23, 2005.

    She is survived by her Godchildren Debra Listewnik and her husband Kenneth of Oxford and Ronald White and his wife Kay of Whitinsville; her caregivers as well as family, Ed Kurtyka Jr. of Oxford and Terry Pepin of Leicester; many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and many friends. She was sister of the late Jennie White, Josephine Fleszar, Helen Marshall, John Kurtyka Jr., Edward Kurtyka Sr., Stanley Kurtyka, and Frank Kurtyka.
     Born in Lawrence, MA on June 23, 1922 she was the daughter of John Sr. and Mary (Kostrezewa) Kurtyka. Stella was raised in the Manchaug section of Sutton and lived in S. Grafton since she and Henry built their home in 1957. Auntie said “ I saw the moon one night shining over and knew that was going to be our home.”
    Mrs. Plante worked in the Weaving Dept. as a dedicated Pattern Maker at Hayward Schuster Woolen Mill in Douglas and the Cotton Mill in Blackstone. As a skilled seamstress, she also did beautiful upholstery work, handmade clothing and made many home warming gifts. She was also an excellent cook who was always eager to bring a dish to special event. Stella was educated in the Manchaug Schools. She traveled with Henry for many years in their motor home, which brought them both much joy. She enjoyed caring for her yard, and tending to each shrub, plant, tree and garden, was very important to her. Stella even mowed her own lawn until she was 90. She loved needlecraft, crochet and also enjoyed Tole Painting. A member of the Dudley Gendron American Legion Auxiliary, Stella was also an active member of St. James Church for many years.
    Her funeral will be held Tues. March 9 from Jackman Funeral Home, 12 Spring St. Whitinsville with a Mass at 11 am in St. James Church, 89 Main St. S. Grafton. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Mon. March 8 from 4 to 6 pm.  Memorial donations in Stella’s memory may be made to St. James Church, 89 Main St. S.
