Uxbridge- Mary (Oleksyk) Bochniak, 100, formerly of Oak St., died Wed. Jan. 30, 2019 after a brief illness. Her husband of 38 years John F. Bochniak died in 1976.
    She is survived by her daughter Mary P. “Mania” Golden of Winchester; 2 grandchildren, Brian K. Golden of Winchester, and John M. Golden of Austin, TX; a brother-in-law, Russell T. Gaskell; 2 sister-in-laws, Jennie Oleksyk and Barbara Oleksyk; many nieces, nephews, and a special neighbor, Donna Ciesielski. She was predeceased by a son John “Janek” Bochniak, and recently a son-in-law, Brian M. Golden MD. She was sister of the late Sophie Oleksyk, Helen DeVries, Noella Brothers, Jennie Wolanski, Anne Gaskell, Walter Oleksyk, Stanley Oleksyk, and Frank Oleksyk. She was also predeceased by 3 brother-in-laws, Joseph DeVries, Owen Brothers, and Edward Wolanski. Born in Grafton, MA on May 26, 1918, she was the daughter of Joseph and Agnes (Knapik) Oleksyk and lived in Uxbridge most of her life. She had been a resident of Whitney Place in Northbridge the past 3 years.
    Educated in the Uxbridge public school system, Mrs. Bochniak worked at the former Waucantuk Mill and Bernat Yarn Co. in Uxbridge, and for the Jessie White Co. in Mendon. She was an active member and shareholder of the Polish American Social and Civic Corporation. Mary was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Church, and belonged to their Bereavement Ministry, and former Daughters of Isabella. She was a hard worker who took pride in her home, and could be often seen working in her yard. She enjoyed knitting, needlepoint, Polish picnics, and dancing with her husband John. She took trips with Foxy Travel and even travelled to Poland with her sister and cousins.
    Her funeral Mass will be held Mon. Feb. 4 at 10:30 am in St. Mary’s Church, 71 Mendon St., Uxbridge, MA. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. A calling hour at St. Mary’s Church will be held prior to Mass from 9:30 to 10:30 am.
