Douglas- Daniel W. Dunleavy Sr., 75, of Deerfield Dr. in Webster, a longtime Douglas resident, died Sun. March 18, 2018 surrounded by his family after a long illness.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years Elaine M. (Senecal) Dunleavy of Webster; his daughter Karen M. Kaminski of Northbridge; 2 sons Daniel W. Dunleavy Jr. and Mark W. Dunleavy both of Douglas; 7 grandchildren Nicholas, Alexandra, Evan, Cassidy, Mitchell, Olivia, and Deanna; a sister Mary Ursula Jones of Chicago; and many nephews, nieces and friends. Born in Worcester, MA on Jan. 6, 1943 he was the son of William and Mary Ursula (O’Brien) Dunleavy and lived in Douglas most of his life. He had been a resident of Webster the past 18 years.
Mr. Dunleavy worked as a plant engineer at the former Thom McAnn Shoe Co. in Worcester, retiring in 2005. Previously he worked at E.J. Cross Construction Co., also in Worcester. A longtime member of Mumford Council 365 Knights of Columbus, he participated in their bowling and golf leagues. He was a little league baseball coach and served on the Douglas Zoning Board of Appeals and the School Building Committee. He enjoyed people, summers in Narragansett in his younger years and belonged to the Webster Lake Association. He was a member of St. Denis Church and served on their Renovation Committee. His family wishes to thank the staff at Newton Wellesley Center for Alzheimers for the compassionate care and support shown to Dan and his family.
His funeral will be held Fri. March 23, from Jackman Funeral Home, 7 Mechanic St. Douglas with a Mass at 11 am in St. Denis Church, 23 Manchaug St. Burial will follow in St. Denis Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Thurs. March 22 from 5 to 7 pm.
