Whitinsville- Rita T. (Dupont) Fournier, 90, of Heritage Dr., formerly of Providence Rd. passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2017, at Milford Hospital after a brief illness.

She is survived by two daughters Barbara A. and her husband Eugene Columbus of Northbridge, and Sharon M. Demers of Northborough; 3 grandchildren Todd Columbus and his wife Angela, Jessie Demers, and Justin Demers; 2 great-grandchildren Lucas Columbus and Olivia Columbus; 3 sisters Ruth Grasso of Grafton, Blanche Guertin of North Uxbridge, and Elizabeth Zywien of Whitinsville; many nieces, nephews, and good friends. She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 57 years, William A. Fournier and a brother, Norman Dupont.

Rita was born in Whitinsville, MA on November 26, 1926 a daughter of Wilfred and Lila (Deome) Dupont. She lived in Whitinsville all her life and was a graduate of Northbridge High School, Class of 1944. She started her working career after high school, married her high school sweetheart, Bill, but then chose to stay home to raise their two daughters. Family was most important to Rita. She returned to work many years later as a bookkeeper for the H.J Theiler Corp. of Whitinsville, retiring in 1986.

During retirement, Rita and her husband were snow birds, spending winters in Clearwater, Florida. She also enjoyed cooking, collecting recipes, knitting, traveling, dancing, going to the beach, and family vacations to Cape Cod. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and took part in their monthly excursions whenever she could.

Her funeral will be held on Tuesday Oct. 10, with a Mass at 11 am. in St. Patrick’s Church, 1 Cross St. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Calling hours at Jackman Funeral Home, 12 Spring St. Whitinsville are Tuesday Oct. 10 from 8:30 to 10:30 am. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd. Waltham, MA 02452.
